Practice Makes Perfect

 It is a great time to practice math standards the students learned throughout the school year. Students were challenged to work on math standards they struggled to understand throughout the year. The challenge was for students to complete 400 questions on IXL over the weekend (April 7th through April 10th).

Several students took the opportunity work at home, before school, during advisory, and free class time to improve their math understanding of 7th grade standards. IXL is a program that the Junior High is currently receiving a free month trial to see if the program provides the best enhancement to standards for several areas. 

"IXL is an immersive K-12 learning experience that provides comprehensive, standards-aligned content for math, language arts, science, and social studies." 



So, today, we had a NACHO BAR to celebrate those students who were able to complete 400 or more 7th grade standard questions on IXL. (The students were able to answer over 25,000 questions in 7 days! What an accomplishment!)

Happy Pi Day!

On Thursday, March 14, we celebrated Pi Day (3.14). For this celebration, we, mathematics teachers, created a day of activities and opportunities for students to learn as much about the number Pi & its importance.

"Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi, a Greek letter, is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.  Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point."

Memory Challenge

We issued a challenge that tested the student memory. Pi starts off with 3.14 and goes on forever. How many of the infinite numbers can they remember? The students had one week to memorize them in order. Below are the first 25 digits of Pi:

Find Circumference & Area of Food

Students brought in a “circular” food of their choice. The students measured the diameter and radius of their circular food in order to help find the circumference and area.

Making MATH and LEARNING fun for all! After the students completed the mathematical portion of today's activities, they chowed down on their food & watched a short video on Pi.

First Quarter ST Math Incentive

Any student whose syllabus progress was 15 or more percent received the incentive to get a sno-cone and free time outside on the turf. The students enjoyed the great weather to hang out with friends and relax!
